Our client is a leading international software provider in the construction and engineering industry. We are currently looking for a "Senior Database Engineer (m/f/d) - PostgreSQL, Cloud Environment" to join their team. The position is primarily remote within Germany; however, occasional travel for on-site workshops and team meetings is required.

As a Senior Database Engineer with a focus on PostgreSQL, you will be responsible for designing, operating, and evolving the central relational database platform. You will play an important role in modernizing existing database environments, consolidating legacy systems, and supporting product teams with reliable and high-performance PostgreSQL-based solutions.

You will be part of a Platform Engineering team that develops backend-focused platform services and works closely with multiple product teams.

• Design, implement, and operate PostgreSQL-based database solutions within a centralized multi-tenant platform
• Take technical ownership of PostgreSQL schema design, performance tuning, and operational stability
• Plan and execute migrations from legacy or heterogeneous database systems to PostgreSQL
• Collaborate closely with backend engineering teams to integrate database solutions into backend services
• Define and maintain standards and best practices for relational data modeling and database operations
• Ensure high availability, backup and recovery strategies, and predictable database performance
• Contribute to platform architecture decisions and the long-term data strategy
• Support product teams through technical guidance, reviews, and hands-on collaboration

You combine deep relational database expertise with hands-on cloud experience and an architectural mindset.

For this role, you should bring:

• Strong practical experience with PostgreSQL and other relational database systems
• Advanced knowledge of data modeling, indexing strategies, and query optimization
• Experience in database migration and modernization initiatives
• Hands-on experience operating PostgreSQL in cloud environments (preferably AWS, e.g., RDS or Aurora)
• Solid understanding of backend architectures and data access patterns
• Proficiency in at least one backend programming language
• Familiarity with high availability concepts, replication, failover, and disaster recovery
• Exposure to Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and database monitoring/observability tools
• Fluent English skills; German language skills are a plus
• Availability with significant overlap with German business hours (CET/CEST)
